LOLwut: The Video Website, a Social Network Parody

There have been a lot of parodying of the The Social Network trailer recently (the Myspace one was particularly good), but this is probably my favorite. What if The Social Network wasn't about Facebook, but instead Youtube? Hilarity ensues. Watch the actual trailer first though, it'll make more sense.

This is Fun: Tron Legacy Remixed

A while back we featured a pretty awesome trailer remix of Iron Man 2 by Mike Relms. Well he's back with a followup, and by popular demand, it's Tron Legacy. Awesome. This one mixes footage from the Comic-Con 2008 test footage combined with bits from the last two trailers.

This is Awesome: Red Dead Redemption LEGO

LEGO rocks, but I don't need to tell you that. You can see that for yourself. The question is, could LEGO become even more cool than it already is? The answer, evidenced by the creations of THEBrick Trooper on Flickr, is yes, yes it can.

Inception: Starring Scrooge McDuck

I loved Inception, and that's pretty much the general consensus of the other writers here at the 8th-Circuit. It was pure awesomeness in film form. It managed to present filmgoers with a rare thing: a big budget Summer feature that also had an engaging and thought provoking plot. It's also come about that it's a total rip-off of a Scrooge McDuck comic book. What?!

Video Game Movie News: Uncharted and Dead Space

Video game movies are a hot property. Sure there haven't been many successes, but movies based on video games still present an attractive opportunity for film studios. Name a big successful game and there's probably some sort of connection to a movie. That's the case with Naughty Dog's Uncharted and EA's Dead Space, both of which have been in the news recently in relation to planned films.

Aldebaran Robotics' Nao Robot Show

Aldebaran Robotics gave a presentation in the France Pavilion at Shanghai Expo 2010. What did they show off? If you guessed miniature robots in synchronized dance, you're right! You're also weird!

TF2: Throw Down Thine Golden Wrenches... for Charity!

During the Engineer Update lead-up, Valve awarded 100 Golden Wrenches to random players who crafted items. It's a pretty sexy bit of in-game weaponry, granting no extra bonuses, but turning players who are killed by the wrench into gold statues instead of corpses. Sounds pretty cool to me, but not to one player going by the screename WiNGSPANNT. In fact, he hates it so much, he's going to destroy it; but not for evil (or even science), but for charity!

New Looney Tunes Clip: Coyote Falls

Looney Tunes cartoons rock. Even decades after they first aired they manage to entertain like no other cartoon can. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. hasn't had much luck replicating the success of the classic cartoons in the modern era. The Space Jam and Looney Tunes: Back In Action films, which mixed animation and live action, were underwhelming when compared to the classic cartoons (although Space Jam has a certain awesome quality all to its own). Warner Bros. hasn't given up the hope that they'll find the right mix though, and that brings us to the new Looney Tunes animated theatrical shorts.

People Watching at Comic-Con: Nerd Classification

Nerd, originally, was a term coined from a Dr. Seuss book written in the early 50s. It soon became a moniker for the less athletic, more intelligent ‘others’ of juvenile society. The word has now come to encompass a wide swath of American society, as nerd has broken into our lexicon as less of an insult and more of a badge of honor. Nerds no longer are given swirlies and having their lunch money taken; they are economic powerhouses that vault movies like Iron Man and The Dark Knight to unparalleled success, and make video games the second largest entertainment industry behind movies. They are the ones who fill the halls of Comic-Con, and in the Starbucks and Barnes & Nobles in your friendly neighborhood. As such, like a young Jacque Cousteau, I felt it my duty to classify these people into succinct groups.

Scott Pilgrim vs the Animation to Air August 12th

I've been hearing some pretty solid rumors that Adult Swim was well underway producing an animated prequel/companion piece to Edgar Wright's upcoming adaptation of Scott Pilgrim. Today however, we have actual, tangible proof that work on the show is pretty much done. The end result is a four-minute piece that follows a flaskback scene from the second book wherein Pilgrim meets Lisa Miller and Kim Pine, the latter of whom would go on to become the drummr in his band.

Review: Tournament of Legends

I’m pretty vocal about my hate for the Wii, but just in case you haven’t heard, I’ll say it one more time.  I hate the Wii.  So when I started up Tournament of Legends, I had some pretty low expectations of what was to come.  But then on the other hand, I like fighting games, so overall I wasn’t really sure what to expect.

The Week Ahead: August 2nd - 6th

This week, like each and every other week, sees the release of a variety of video games, movies and comic books. Here's a look at what's coming out this week, and a little insight into why exactly you might be interested in checking them out.

Comic-Con: Walking the Streets of Downtown San Diego

During the four days of Comic-Con, there was a lot of walking around that had to be done. Walking to and from the convention center, walking out to find someplace to eat (usually 7-11), and walking around for the Scott Pilgrim Experience. I’m not personally familiar with the streets of downtown San Diego during an average day, but I’m pretty sure that they’re nothing like they are during Comic-Con.

Iron Man, Wolverine, X-Men and Blade Anime Coming to G4 in 2011

As early as 2008 it's been known that comic book giant Marvel was seeking to further develop their catalog of characters in other media, like anime. The company announced, in conjunction with Japanese anime studio Madhouse, that four Marvel Anime projects were in the works and that two of those projects were Wolverine and Iron Man. Ever since that first announcement, I've been trying to find out what the other two projects were. Now we know, they're X-Men and Blade; and I'm super excited.
