Red-Band Kick-Ass Trailer Shows Off Hit Girl

Yes. Awesome. Finally. These are the words that came to mind when I learned that a red-band Kick-Ass trailer had finally hit the web. Not to say that the green-band trailer wasn't fun, but a movie this fearlessly awesome deserves a bit more than what a work-safe trailer can.

Despicable Me Trailer has an Army of Ruthless, Menacing Minions

The third trailer for Despicable Me shows off the World's #2 Supervillain's not-so-diabolical minions.  Not sure if they're able to even comprehend the idea of stealing the moon, but hey, they aren't my underlings.  If the movie is as amusing as the trailer's have been, I'm looking forward to it.  Check out the trailer below, and if you haven't seen the previous, check it out.

Review: Up in the Air

Coming home can be a wonderful thing. As I returned home to visit with family for the Holidays, I found that one of the local theaters had received Up in the Air during its limited release. After a great festival run, a remarkable trailer, and huge critical success, it should not be a surprise that I was especially pleased at this turn of events. However, while I look forward to coming home, the central character in Up in the Air doesn't quite share my outlook.

Toy Story 3 Clip Online

It might not be in 3D (or HQ for that matter), but this Toy Story 3 clip is still pretty great. The animation and design is Pixar (read: awesome), and there's a bit in it that harkens back to a moment from Toy Story 2 that works really well in my opinion. Check it out below and let me know what you think:

Review: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

With a limited release on Christmas Day and facing stiff competition from films such as Nine and Sherlock Holmes, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus should sue their marketing team. If this film is depending on the power of being Heath Ledger’s last film alone, then they are in big trouble. It has already been released in UK and still there is a lack of word of mouth for this film, and so far no major award nominations despite several screenings in and around LA. This includes the pre-release screening hosted by the Society of Audio Engineers that was luckily shown at my film school, giving me access to Terry Gilliam’s latest film.

Review: Avatar

Or: JAMES CAMERON’S Avatar

James Cameron, acclaimed director of films such as Titanic, Aliens and The Terminator, has been working on Avatar for the better part of ten years. Originally, his planned follow-up to the incredibly successful Titanic in 1998, Cameron felt that the technology at the time wasn’t adequate enough to capture his vision. Well, now the film is finally out, but was it worth the wait?

Review: The Blind Side

It was not my intention to go and see the Blind Side this week. Every Thanksgiving it is a family tradition that we all go out and see a movie. Now on actual Thanksgiving this is usually quite hard because my mother is busy in the kitchen, but some time during the holiday break we find the time to catch a flick. The hard part is agreeing on what movie to go see. My dad loves football, and my mom and I like Sandra Bullock, so The Blind Side was chosen. I do not regret this decision. In fact, I’m very glad we came to this agreement.

70-Minute Review of the Phantom Menace You Must Watch!

Seriously, this is just great. If you are a Star Wars fan who can't stand the first movie (or the first three for that matter), you must watch this. Put together by a fan going by the name of Mike from Milwaukee, this epic 70-minute video review is funny, insightful, well-edited, and dare I say, even professional? This, alongside its witty writing, absurdist humor, and deadpan comic delivery make this one of the funniest thing on the web to date, as long as you're a Star Wars fan that is. It's long, I know, but I recommend you schedule some time for it; if you're anything like me, you won't be able to stop watching.

Holiday Buy Guide 2009: DS

Holiday Buy Guide 2009: PS3

Well since we’ve got Holiday Buy Guides for all the other major consoles, your PC, and your DVD player, we thought it's only fair to publish one for the PS3… for all four of you that own one, that is.

TF2: Victory!

The war is over (pause for cheering, parades, hats thrown the air, and impromptu makeout sessions)! While the Demomen put up a valiant effort, it was the noble Soldier who prevailed with a narrow margin of less than 40,000 kills. Check out the last update preview at the War Hub, including two new maps and the Soldier's spoil of war, a pair of boots that greatly reduce rocket jump damage. Congrats team!

The Golden Rules of L4D

Left 4 Dead 2 is a sequel (obviously). And considering it's so similar in style to the first, a vast majority of its playerbase have, at some point, experienced its predecessor. You’d think some common rules about playing with others would be common knowledge by now. You’d think so. After only a few hours in the game, it was very obvious that things like common courtesy, teamwork and not being a bitch were hard to find. And in a team of four, just one douche-bag can ruin your entire day. Therefore, I have assembled my Top Ten Golden Rules of being a valuable L4D player. Enjoy.

Final Fantasy XIV Beta Sign-ups Announced

For all the fans who have been awaiting the announcement of a Beta for Final Fantasy XIV since the E3 2009 announcement trailer, your day has come. As of last night, Square Enix has opened up Beta sign ups for the Windows version of the game. The link to the application page can be found here. However, there are a few important things to note before you sign up. Firstly, this is a closed Beta, and a highly popular one at that, so there is a bit of luck involved with being chosen, on top of your actual application. To try and be fair Square Enix promised to allow waves of testers, so more people can be accommodated. Also, no time frame has been given for the Beta, meaning that it could start in March of next year for all we know. But all that aside good luck with your application if you do decide to apply, and let us know if you get in!

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days Trailer Released

Kane & Lynch holds a special place in this site's heart. Not because it was especially good though, because well, it wasn't. No, Kane & Lynch was the first anything to be reviewed on this site. But please don't go looking it up, seriously. If you think my writing is poor now, you won't find much to like with that piece of work. Anyways, Kane & Lynch was a great game, buried under a mountain of deep, deep flaws. But if the sequel can pull an Assassin's Creed and legitimately respond to the criticisms of the first, we could be in for a treat. As for the trailer, it aint merry, I'll say that much. Check it out below:

TF2: The End is Near

A double whammy of TF2 goodness today. First an update on the propaganda contest announced late last week. Even on the home-front, Demomen continued to lay down and take it in this contest, with Soldier posters taking both first and third prize. Regardless, check out all three winners, as they're all pretty deserving of praise. Secondly, we have an update from the front lines. While the Soldiers still lead this conflict, Demomen are closing the gap, with a mere 14,792 kills now separating. Time to buckle down Soldiers, this is no time to choke! In other news, new weapons and both class's achievement lists!
