Captain America Begins in June
This is a tiny, tiny update on the upcoming Captain America film titled The First Avenger: Captain America. Aside from drafting in director Joe Johnston, whose latest work, The Wolfman, can be seen on February 12, 2010, and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, there hasn't been much happening on Cap's behalf.
So when Fangoria revealed that Marvel is planning a June start for The First Avenger, it's a bit of a big deal to Cap fans, like myself, who are looking to cling to any news about the film. IMDB currently lists the film as "in pre-production" and it’s unclear as to whether this is a principal photography start or actual filming.
Principal photography was now less than four weeks away. “By the time I got on a plane and arrived, it was three,” recalls Johnston (on his taking over The Wolfman), speaking from the art department of THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA, which he’s readying for a June start."
I know what you must be thinking: it's only a start date. A date that is only mentioned in passing in an article about another film and no quote to back it up, but for Cap I'll pretty much buy it, and hopefully it will be the catalyst for a range of other news predominantly of the casting variety. The role of Steve Rodgers, and subsequently Captain America, is one of the hottest in Hollywood, potentially a career breaker due to the characters iconic status, and the question of who is going to play Cap is a big one. With a rumored June start, we should know who will play Captain America very shortly.
The First Avenger: Captain America is due to hit screens July 22, 2011.
