Dante's Inferno Epic Animated Trailer
By now, many of you have probably heard of the game Dante's Inferno. Whether you know it for its use of the Dante Alighieri poem Inferno as source material, having an achievement called 'Bad Nanny' where you kill an un-baptized baby, or through the bizarre publicity stunts EA has pulled to market the game (mainly when it organized a fake protest of the game at E3), Dante's Inferno has certainly been in the public and media's focus.
Now it's back in the limelight and it's brought a fancy new trailer with it. Thing is, this trailer isn't for the game; it's for the animated film based on the game. That's right. It seems studios are constantly pursuing more varied and interesting ways to expand upon the games they are creating and animated films are hot. Starz Entertainment, who also worked on the Dead Space: Downfall movie, is releasing the direct to DVD animated film.
The animated film follows the story of the game closely. Dante, a warrior from the Crusades, must save his true love, Beatrice, whose soul has been dragged down to hell by Lucifer. In hell, Dante will come face to face with the 9 Circles of Hell before ultimately facing off against Lucifer. The animated movie features another popular trend at the moment: collaborative animation. Several different anime studios have been drafted in to create their own vision of hell, making the 9 Circles unique in appearance. The trailer gives the impression that the film is ridiculously violent with plenty of beheadings, decapitations, and general nastiness. Meanwhile, the different Dante's look rather cool, his scythe quite possibly being one of the coolest weapons ever, dishing out some serious punishment. The locations do look truly epic, yet bleak and oppressive enough to remind you that this is hell, while the bosses look seriously bad ass. From the look of things, Dante's Inferno certainly won't do anything to stop studios from making animated films to accompany their games, but it will be interesting to see how the different Circles flow into each other to make a cohesive story.
The DVD is out in February 2010, same time as the game.
