Duke Nukem: Nothing Wrong?

The other day we posted an article, from Wired, which detailed how Duke Nukem: Forever became "the biggest video-game that never was". The article presented some interesting reasons as to why we haven't seen Forever and stated that fans will need a miracle to see it as the company is locked in a lawsuit with Take-Two. Well, in a move that will make people happy and is surely something of a miracle, 3D Realms, the studio behind Duke Nukem, have just released an update on the state of, you guessed it, Duke Nukem.

The companies CEO Scott Miller tells Gamesauce magazine that,

"The next few years should see a strong resurgence in Duke. There are numerous other Duke games in various stages of development, several due out this year. We are definitely looking to bring Duke into casual gaming spaces, plus there are other major Duke games in production. Almost all of these [projects] are unannounced."

What is really unfortunate for Wired, who surely couldn't have known this, is that Miller went on to say that Duke Nukem: Forever is not necessarily canceled. Miller gave the project another lifeline when he said that "Yes, we released the internal team, but that doesn't correlate to the demise of the project."

So it looks like after well over a decade, fans of the Duke Nukem series, and the phantom Forever project, will get what they want, Duke's return. 1Up believes that a few of these projects are ports of the original Duke Nukem Trilogy, for DS and PSP, and of Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project for the Xbox Live Arcade. Then there's also the game "D-Day" which 3D Realms teased a month ago when they released an image from the game along with a Facebook post saying that Duke Nukem "doesn't stay down for long". Now there is suspicion that this image is from Duke Nukem: Forever but whatever this picture is from it looks freaking sweet.

So with Duke looking to possibly hit multiple platforms in the near future it looks like 3D Realms have almost pulled off a miracle. I say almost due to the up and down development of Duke Nukem: Forever. No one can class this announcement as a fully fledged miracle until we can go out and buy one of these games. Still, the prospect of once again getting to play Duke Nukem is a good one and one I can wait a little longer for.
