YMBMO: Astro City
Comic books. Homoerotic adolescent fascist wish fulfillment that privileges the phallocentric – *cough* excuse me, this YMBMO isn’t on the arcane excesses of critical theory. Today is about comic books, not deconstructions of comic books, but re-constructions of comic book archetypes as modern myth. Sorry, I almost lapsed into literary criticism jargon again. I’ll skip to the point as fast as a speeding bullet then: This YMBMO is about fun. Welcome to Astro City.
YMBMO: Project Euler
Do you like puzzles? Many do! Do you like programming? Not as many people do! Do you like programming puzzles? If you’re in the intersection of the Venn diagrams of “Puzzle lover” and “Programming lover,” then this article is for you! This week in YMBMO, enter Project Euler!
Check Out: The New Star Tours Queue Video
The new (and hopefully improved) Star Tours ride will be debuting soon on May 10th 2011 in Disneyland in Anaheim, and May 17th 2011 in Disneyworld in Orlando. If you're curious what the ride will be like, you can check out the video that will play for those waiting in the queue line for the ride.
Spam Sunday: Going the Extra Mile
If anything, we got even more spam this week. Didn't I tell you kids to cut that out? And get off my porch god dammit!
This is Fun: Street Fighter on Facebook
This is pretty clever. What if the cast of Street Fighter had Facebook accounts? Well, maybe something like this...
This is Badass: Shogun Vader
You don't see it all too often, but when it's done right, it's straight up awesome. Cosplay is usually centered around recreating a character as accurately as possible, but sometimes the costume makers take it in a much different direction, "remixing" the costume in strange and interesting ways. Examples of this include the Comic-Con staple of Pimp Boba, and more recently... Shogun Vader.
Lord of the Rings: The Theme Park?
I'll admit, I often get unreasonably excited at the prospect of a new theme park, even if it's one I'll probably never be able to visit. Regardless, I still think this news is pretty cool. Apparently Universal Studios has been testing the water for a new LotR theme park through email surveys. Check out the pitch below.
Bacon Healthy? "Sure Why Not"
Bacon is delicious. Fact. Bacon is bad for you. Also... not... fact? At least according to this official looking infographic found on MedicalBillingSchool.org. Man, I don't know what to believe anymore.
Stephen Hawking to Humanity: "Colonise Space Before We F*** S*** Up"
Okay okay, so Stephen Hawking didn't quite use those exact words, but it would have been awesome if he did. Anyway, something that video games, movies, comics, and novels have all depicted now, according to renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking (via News.com.au), needs to happen for real; humanity needs to colonise space!
Spam Sunday: The Mafia's Gotten a Lot Weirder Lately
So, you might be asking, what the hell is this post? Why is it about spam and not bacon? Where did my pants go? Well, I can answer at least two of those questions. Yes, no, and um, maybe?
