This is Fun: The Beastie Boys' Sabotage Meets Battlestar Galactica

The Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" may have risen (further) in Geekdom thanks in large part to J.J. Abrams Star Trek. Well now we have even more reason to dust off those old CDs (I know you have them) after watching youtube's katamaran78 “Galactica: Sabotage.” The video is a nearly shot-for-shot recreation of the original video for "Sabotage" using footage from the reimagined BSG. Check out the music video, and a side-by-side comparison, below:

LOLwut: Gaga in Wonderland

Apparently for youtube's Black20, Tim Burton's recent Alice in Wonderland just wasn't weird enough. And what's the easiest way to weird-up any mundane old thing? Lady Gaga, clearly. "When Wonderland is threatened by a pop-music hating Queen Of Hearts, Lady Gaga returns to her homeland to kick some evil ass... but mainly dance, sing, and weird it up." It might not be a professional level mashup, but it's pretty hilarious and worth it just for the concept. Check it out below:

New OK Go Music Video: This Too Shall Pass

OK Go, fine purveyors of such awesome music video as that one with the treadmills have just premiered an amazing new one. And while the song has already been given a pretty kick-ass music video, this official video for the recorded version of "This Too Shall Pass" blows it straight out of the water. I don't want to spoil anything, because seriously, it's crazy awesome, but I'll just say it's like dominoes... on every drug ever invented. Enjoy:

Metric's New Song is Our First Peek at the Scott Pilgrim Soundtrack

Bands play a big role in the story and characters of Scott Pilgrim. To get that effect in the soundtrack of the upcoming adaptation, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, a number of real world musicians have been brought in to be the fictional ones of the comic. Title character Scott Pilgrim's band Sex Bob-omb is having their music conceived by Beck, Crash will be represented by Broken Social Scene, and The Clash at Demonhead will have their's done by one of my favorite groups, Metric.

Matt's Rantbox: 2010 Grammy Awards

Or: Really Just Grammys in general…

Every year (all two of them now), the 8th-Circuit has a vote amongst its editors and contributors to determine what we deem was the best in video games and movies that year. This year, as you may notice, we did not decide on the best in music. Simply put, our musical tastes are too varied, meaning that it is nearly impossible to narrow any category down for us. But hey, that’s what the Grammys are for, right?

ME2: Planetary Scanning Gets a Hip-hop Remix

Mass Effect 2 was a great game, that much I'm sure of. However, that doesn't mean it was all great. I'm at looking at you planet scanning mini-game... Well fortunately, some good came of that mind-numbing affair, in the form of a fan-made Hip-hop track. "Those Minerals", by Kabuto the Python, is pretty freakin' hilarious, combining sound from the game, as well as some bits from the English gangster movie Snatch, and some Star Wars for good measure. You can listen to and download the track for free at Tindeck, enjoy!

Review: American Saturday Night by Brad Paisley

I'm a mainstream music guy, there is no doubting that, but my mainstream is not the diluted pop music of today. Instead, it's what I call a little bit country, a little bit rock 'n roll. Brad Paisley's latest falls right in there. But does it live up to the standard established by Play? Find out after the jump.

Music Video(s) of the Week: In Memoriam

As you probably know, our friend and teammate Brendan Kutler passed away a few weeks ago. In memory of him, a few of us on the 8th have collected our favorite selections from his column, Music Video(s) of the Week. Part reflection on the work of a talented and passionate member of our community, part tribute to a incredible friend, we hope you've enjoyed Brendan's work as much we have.

This is Fun: Pixar's Up Gets Remixed

Now this is some good stuff. Badass video remix artist Pogo took chords, bass notes and vocal samples from Pixar's Up and turned it into a song called "Upular". The result is predictably awesome considering the artist at work and the work he's drawing from. Check it out below:

This is Awesome: Tarantino Mixtape

Now, as you might have noticed, we here on the 8th have a certain...liking for Quentin Tarantino. Thus, you can probably understand my excitement when I found that the folks behind Eclectic Method created a seven minute epic mixtape consisting only of audio from Tarantino Films. Seriously. Hit the jump to see the video that accompanies this amazing piece of work.
