Steam Trading Beta? Oh My!
Steam continues to get more intriguing with this out-of-nowhere update. A beta "trading" system has gone active, allowing players to swap TF2 items for unredeemed games, and vice versa, with those on their friends list. You can also just trade those unused games for other unused games. Steam teases the ability to trade TF2 items for in-game stuffs in future supportable games as well, creating a sort of "Valve currency" I hereby dub "The Newell."
QuakeCon Steam Sale, Free TF2 Items
If you've been gaming for a while, you've probably heard of id Software. They're the guys behind Doom, Wolfenstein, Quake, and most recently, Rage. id's annual gamer gathering, QuakeCon, started today, as did a Steam sale in its honor. Each day, a different Bethesda published title will be put on sale, often with an exclusive TF2 item attached. Read on for more details.
Free Stuff: Win a 'Righteous Bison' Code for TF2! [SDCC11]
If you're a TF2 player and you missed out on Comic-Con this year, you also missed out on a chance to grab a code (or two, or three) for 'The Righteous Bison,' a new laser gun for the Soldier class. Fear not however, as I nabbed a pretty good number of them, and I'm here to pass them on to you! To win a code (redeemable through Steam) for the weapon, just email <contests@8th-circuit.com> and tell me what your favorite TF2 weapon is. I'll pick a few lucky winners from the bunch, and you'll be firing them lasers in no time, good luck!
Team Fortress 2 Goes Free-to-Play, Meet the Medic Released
Valve's Robin Walker has just broke the news to industry trade site Develop-Online that Team Fortress 2 has just gone free-to-play for both the PC and Mac versions, FOREVER. The game will now be entirely supported by the Mann Co. Store. So if you haven't gotten a chance to pick up the game yet, it's not going to get any cheaper. The game is currently in the middle of a "free week" promotion, which I guess is rendered kind of pointless by this news. That's not the only bit of news however, as "Meet the Medic" is finally here, check it out below!!!
Valve Bits: DotA 2, Portal DLC, TF2 and Mysterious Mysteries
It's only been a single post since I've last reported on some Valve going-ons. Man, they should just go ahead and hire me as their official mascot or something. Nudge nudge.
Anyways, read on for some DotA 2 and TF2 rumors, some strange Portal 2 DLC news, and some vague vagaries concerning future Valve developments.
TF2: The 'Uber Update' is Coming this Thursday
No matter how much you might hate (or love) the game that has become Hat Fortress 2, you have to admit, most developers couldn't care less about supporting their games a few months after it's been released, much less four years. That's why I for one am very excited about the new update pack titled the 'Über Update,' which Valve has dubbed "the biggest, most ambitious update in the history of Team Fortress 2." OOooohhhh~
Valve Bits: TF2 Goes Japanese, Portal Theme Song, L4D Mutation
Valve's been up to a lot lately, both prepping Portal 2 and keeping fan-favorites TF2 and L4D2 updated with some slick new content. There's some Japanese themed TF2 items, news of a Portal 2 theme song, and a new mutation for Left 4 Dead. Check out the details below.
This is Awesome: The Demo Knight
What's better than TF2 + Tron? TF2 + Batman of course. From the guys who brought you "Law Abiding Engineer" comes another awesome crossover. This one really goes the extra mile to sell the concept, and it totally works. It's vids like these that keep me coming back to this game, check it out below.
Must Watch: Tron Fortress
If you're a fan of Team Fortress 2 or Tron, you'll probably get a kick out of this. If you're a fan of both... this will be the coolest thing you'll see today. Youtube has sadly removed it for obvious reasons, but you can still watch it via PLDX, and you definitely should. There's no word yet when or if the map will ever be publicly available (I'm sure copyrights have something to do about that), but in the meantime, enjoy TF2 + Tron + Daft Punk.
Team Fortress 2 Items for Pre-Ordering Rift
Valve, you're making me sad. This isn't the first time that Valve has awarded Team Fortress 2 items via another game, but this is probably the most expensive (and least related) cross-promotion Valve has run.
