How do you guys personally define what is a retro game? Do you do it by hard year definition, by decades, or just games that feel "old" to you? Do share.

For me there is no real set "timeline" that defines a retro game...it's mostly the feeling of it. For example, Grim Fandango is only 10 years old, not really that old, but it still feels pretty dated (in a good sense) with its oldschool adventure gameplay.

I think a decade is a good number for now, but I think it really should be based on console gen, in which, 2-3 gens back is retro minimum, so that'd be N64 or SNES and down as retro. SNES sounds more retro to me, since I still play N64 pretty often, and I kinda grew up with SNES.

I'd have to say that I usually use the term 'Retro' as more of a genre, so far me its really anything that has that sort of old arcade feel to it. Anything where you're trying to get a high score and the levels don't really end and you only have a certain number of lives. Something like that, I guess...
