It's a blatant fad. Fad in the 50's, fad in the 80's, fad here.

From what I've heard, is that it's a ploy to get all the theaters to go digital (since 3D can only be digital) so they don't have to spend a ton of money on 35mm film, but that's just what I've read on a few places.

Besides, no good movies are in 3D, so bah. It's not advancing the medium or story-telling so screw 3D. But the general public is too stupid to see it for what it is so whatever, let them enjoy their true to form idiot box. I'm fine with my normal digital tv thanks I don't feel the need to spend thousands of dollars on a 3D set for no reason.

I don't know, obviously I'm just speaking from a personal point here, but I thought that Avatar actually benefited from the 3D. When I saw the CG on commercials and stuff, it looked pretty good, but I thought it actually looked better when it was up on the big screen in 3D. I think Up did a really good job with the 3D. It didn't necessarily make the movie leaps and bounds better, but it was a bit more immersive seeing everything in 3D, and it made it easier to lose yourself in the movie.

I am going to have to disagree and say that the 3D did in fact make the movie leaps and bounds better.

i don't actually think 3D movies are a bad thing as the more you can feel engrossed in a film the better, it's just not every film would really benefit from 3D and i wouldn't like to see 3D tacked onto certain films which are quite weak in a bid to make them more attractive to audiences. right now i think there might be a tendency to hoodwink audiences with sharp 3D and special effects while neglecting the story and characters. for instance a bay 3D film would just be wrong.

i also think it should stay the hell out of video games as we are just starting to see some really interesting stuff happening with story and character development in gaming and the might be spoiled if 3D comes in and graphics become the focus and the selling point again
