EDIT: I'm changing this to a general Google thread

So today Google Wave goes into closed beta/ "limited preview."

In short (as I understand it) it's a bit like a more buff'ed up IM service but crossed with blogs. So you can embed replies directly in response/under the original comment instead of belatedly replying to something someone said 10 lines ago. You can also embed pictures, maps, documents, videos etc which will probably not only complement Youtube/Google Docs/Google Maps but it will probably also be really useful in context of a group project.

But I really doubt I'll be checking it out anytime soon (it took me like a year to get a gmail account Sad )

Anyone get an invite? Or if you didn't, anyone else excited? Or any other comments about Google & their products?

It looks more like a project/group management utility than a social one, so it's not so much I don't want to use it, but am wondering when I would :\

I agree. It doesn't seem like something I'd use on a regular basis, but it'd be fantastic for group communication/ projects / planning.

I don't think I'd abandon gtalk for this either; there's charm in gtalk's simplicity.

But I still want to check out Wave.

so you can see what info Google associates with your account: http://www.google.com/dashboard/

I am getting way into Google stuff this past week. I feel lame. but here it is anyways: Google has a store, which I did not know. http://www.googlestore.com/shop.axd/Home  (I think the YouTube tube socks are pretty clever)

also while I'm at it, if you've been ignoring Google Voice, I suggest you look over the features it offers because it seems pretty useful (no more of people trying to call multiple numbers to reach you... it can forward to any associated numbers and if you don't pick up, the voicemail is online for easy access) I suggest getting a number from Google since it has more features.  currently only available to US numbers, though. (US and Canada calls are free, international ones have fee by country basis)

Interesting to see the more subtle ways Google is aiming to make money....
