Dedicated Servers, Modding and Dev Consoles, Oh My

You guys and gals might remember a little game called Modern Warfare 2.  Heck, you might even still be playing it, but do you remember the controversy over the PC version not including dedicated servers?  Yeah, you probably do, especially you PC folk out there.  Well worry no more!  Treyarch announced that along with dedicated servers, Black Ops will allow for mods and dev consoles.

Admittedly, I didn't purchase Modern Warfare 2 on the PC nor am I a huge PC gamer, so I was never exactly sure what the fuss was about.  I asked seventothesins why it was so important, and after 4 or 5 hours of explaining, I got that modded servers sometimes helped balance the game (ban n00b tubes, Commando perk, etc.) and sometimes made for different game modes/

Really what you need to know it that apparently it was a huge deal and now it's not.  Yay?  Treyarch wasn't specific as to how much control modders have, but at the very least they're giving players the option.  Sadly, it won't be available at launch.

Why Treyarch and Activision didn't allow dedicated servers originally is beyond me, but after a strong, unified voice from the PC community, they listened to the fans this time around.

Boycott
