Despite the mouthful of a title, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was one of my favorite movies of 2011. As the Matt Reeves directed sequel comes together, it's starting to look like a worthy followup.

Last month, we got word that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is set 15 years after the events of Rise, with most of humanity wiped out by the now intelligent ape population. The film will follow a group fo San Fransisco scientists at the core of the human resistance movement, as well as Ceasar, Andy Serkis's character from the first film, as he tries to rule over the new ape civilization.

In addition to Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee, ComingSoon has learned that Gary Oldman has just signed on to join the human side of the cast. He'll be playing the leader of a human colony. I hope he keeps the mustache.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is currently aiming for a May 23, 2014 release date.
