Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman Confirmed for 'Independence Day 2'
Last week's surprise announcement revealed that over 15 years after the original, an Independence Day sequel is in the works. While quite honestly, I don't think anyone was really asking for this, you only needed to say one name to get me on board: Jeff Goldblum. My body is ready.
Movies.com got the confirmation that both Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman will return for the sequel. In the original, Goldblum played Jeff Goldblum as a satellite technician who defeated the aliens with the power of computers. Bill Pullman played quite possibly the coolest president/fighter pilot in cinematic history.
Director Roland Emmerich has previously stated that about half of the cast will be new faces. Among these additions is rumored to be Will Smith's character's stepson, originally played by a young Ross Bagley, who will be a central character. Smith on the other hand will not be appearing.
The film is set 20 years after the original, with Earth rebuilt with the help of reverse-engineered alien technology. That's all shattered though when the motherships return for a second helping. Hopefully this time the aliens remembered to install a firewall.
The LA Times reports that Independence Day 2 will begin production early next year, with a 2015 release window planned.
