Judgment is Coming: 'Dredd' Trailer

The first attempt at a Judge Dredd movie adaptation was awful. Awfully amazing. The nearly brainless guilty pleasure starred Sylvester Stallone, and holds up today on sheer camp value. With this in mind, I am a little bit worried that new film, titled Dredd, may be taking itself just a little too seriously. Still, it looks like The Raid meets some crazy sci-fi action a la The Fifth Element, and that at least sounds promising to me.

There's certainly nothing wrong with our first look at the film, but there's not a lot to get particularly excited about. Karl Urban seems a little inconsistent as the title character, but otherwise fine, and there's plenty of eye candy in the set pieces and setting. However, after the huge meltdown following director Pete Travis being barred from overseeing editing, one can only hope that the story can carry the cool visuals.

Dredd will hit theaters on September 21 of this year.
