With AMC's Walking Dead making waves on TV, it makes sense that Paramount is excited for  World War Z, coming out later this year. So excited in fact, that the studio and director Marc Forster is hoping that they can turn the film into a franchise.

An adaptation of the novel by Max Brooks, the film will see Brad Pitt play UN fact-finder Gerry Lane. Unlike the source material however (which I highly recommend checking out), which had the protagonist collecting stories in the aftermath of the zombie pandemic, the film will be set during the disaster.

The LA Times writes that Paramount sees World War Z "as a trilogy that would have the grounded, gun-metal realism of, say, [Matt] Damon’s Jason Bourne series tethered to the unsettling end-times vibe of AMC’s The Walking Dead."

That sounds pretty freaking awesome to me. Now we'll just have to wait and see how the film turns out on December 21.
