Ruffalo to Actually BE The Hulk
So a lot of people were pretty pissed when Marvel announced that Edward Norton wasn't going to be playing the Hulk in The Avengers movie; and instead, Mark Ruffalo was going to be taking over. Personally, I think Ruffalo is a brilliant actor and I could take or leave Norton's Hulk, so why not bring in a new guy? To those who aren't won over by Ruffalo, this latest news may help.
In an interview with Vulture, Ruffalo was asked about what his version of the Hulk in The Avengers would be like, this is what he responded with:
“I’m really excited. No one’s ever played the Hulk exactly, they’ve always done CGI. They’re going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I’ll actually play the Hulk. That’ll be fun.”
As a fan of the character, you have to be a little bit excited and a little bit scared at the prospect. One of the main reasons I think the Hulk hasn't done tremendously well at the box office is audiences can't relate to the big green giant. To those who aren't comic book fans, they just don't get it, and seeing a piece of CGI up there instead of an actor didn't help.
Now, if they use motion capture and actually have Ruffalo playing the Hulk, then maybe the character will have a bit more of a human touch and won't seem so foreign to audiences. Either that, or the character looks horrible and audiences still don't relate to a giant green monster whose vocabulary often doesn't expand beyond "Smash" and "Angry."
The move will certainly create some intense buzz around the reveal of the first Hulk images from The Avengers. Do you think they'll be able to pull off a good Hulk using motion capture? Will it lead to a better performance than past films?
