SXSW Programming Announced
This year’s South by Southwest promises some great films. The festival, running March 8-16, has just announced the lineup, including the film slotted for opening night. Hit the jump to find out what film will open the festival and what other films you might want to look out for!
Opening night honors goes to The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, a film directed by Dan Scardino and starring Steve Carrell, Steve Buscemi, and Jim Carrey. Buscemi and Carrell play a team of magicians who break apart while competing with a new magician played by Jim Carrey. The film will be available in theaters March 15.
Other films featured at the festival include Fede Alvarez’s remake of Evil Dead, and Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, featuring Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens, and James Franco.
Joe Swanberg’s film, Drinking Buddies, will also play at the festival. The film, starring Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson, Anna Kendrick, and Ron Livingston, is about a man and a woman, both in relationships, who get a little wild while working at a Chicago Brewery.
Other highlights include Downloaded, Alex Winter’s documentary about the rise and fall of one of the first music downloading services, Napster, and Good Ol Freda, a film about The Beatles’ secretary, Freda Kelly.
Other events at the festival include a debut of Carlton Cuse’s Bates Motel pilot and some sort of Q&A with Matthew McConaughey.
