Wait What: Jane Goldman to Write a Pinocchio Film, Starring Robert Downey Jr. and Directed by Tim Burton
Hollywood, you never cease to amaze me, in the best ways possible. The latest best worst idea ever is apparently a Tim Burton-led, live-action Pinocchio film directed by Tim Burton and Starring RDJ as Geppetto. The project has been stuck in development for a while now, but looks to be finally gaining traction as it picks up a new screenwriter.
Jane Goldman, who worked with Matthew Vaughn on Stardust, Kick-Ass, and X-Men: First Class, is in talks to write the screenplay, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While nothing is set in stone yet, they comment that this makes Burton and Downey's involvement much more likely, as she'll be incorporating their notes into her draft.
Here's how the original draft, written by Bryan Fuller, was described,
Downey would play Geppetto, the woodcarver who creates the puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy and whose nose grows when he tells a lie. When Pinocchio goes missing, Geppetto embarks on a quest to reunite with his marionette.
Yeah, I'll admit, that sounds pretty dumb. But at the same time, I would absolutely love to see Tim Burton direct RDJ.
