Wanted was not a perfect movie. In fact, it wasn't even a very good movie. But I still really enjoyed it for what it was, and coupled with my respect for Timur Bekmambetov, I'm very open to a sequel. It's been in the works since forever though, and it doesn't seem like it's getting anywhere fast. Still, the Wanted 2 screenwriters were able to confirm that the film is still moving forward, and also offered a few interesting plot details.

The development of Wanted 2 has certainly been a pretty convoluted affair. The screenwriters of the original film, Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, left the sequel after creative differences. After Universal passed the job along to a few others, including Evan Spiliotopoulos, Haas and Brandt were eventually rehired.

The original sequel rumors had Angelina Jolie somehow returning to reprise her role as Fox. According to a recent interview with Deadline however, it looks like Haas and Brandt are taking the story in a different direction.

It’s ‘Where is Wesley four years after the events of the first movie?’ The only thing I can tell you is that Wesley is now, four years later, recruiting a young woman who is in his situation in the first movie. She’s got a shitty life. He’s sort of in the Fox role. This new girl is brought into the world.

Recent reports stated that Bekmambetov had met with Kristen Stewart in regards to a possible role in Wanted 2. She doesn't strike me as a good fit for that film's particular tone, but it would be a great career move for her, especially after she was unfairly cut from the Snow White sequel.
