The trailer for Bryan Singer's prequel/reboot, X-Men: First Class, debuted earlier today. The story takes place quite a while before the first X-Men film, following Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr in their pre-Professor X/Magneto days. Read on to check out the trailer and hear my thoughts on it.

After the third film and Origins, I have to say my take on the series has been severely tainted. While the trailer doesn't make the film look too bad, it certainly didn't impress me enough to convince me that the franchise will turn around with this one. I dig the whole "historical" vibe they got going on, and it certainly helps the film stand out against the first four; but then again, Watchmen already did that, and did it pretty well at that.

Overall, the X-Men films are really just starting to feel played out. The mutant battles have gone from interesting to hokey looking, it doesn't really seem to be taking the characters in any new direction, and nothing in the trailer really stood out to me. Again though, it really didn't look bad at all; just, familiar. And unfourtunately, familiar is not a place I really want to be with an X-Men film.

But that's just me, what're your thoughts on the trailer and/or film in general? Let us know in the comments section!

X-Men: First Class is set to hit theaters on June 3, 2011.
